Oilers Drop First Two Games to Lambeth in OMHA Series
The Oilers fought hard for every square inch of ice and came up just short in two closely contested matches this weekend vs a strong Lambeth Lancers Team.   Friday night in Lambeth Petrolia lost 4-3 and lost 3-2 on home ice Saturday afternoon.

Friday's game got off to a quick start and both sides were making end to end rushes and both goalies were up to the task.  Kento Gudz played solid between the pipes for the Oilers. Lambeth opened the scoring but #11 Brady Melton got the Oilers on the board in the dying minutes of the first period on a feed from Reid King.  Oilers tied 1-1 heading to the intermission.
Lambeth would score twice more in the second period while the Oilers could only muster one goal.  Jace McGrail was Johnny on the Spot and tapped in a William Hull boomer from the point.  Oilers trailed 3-2 after two periods of play.

Heading to the third, Lambeth would score one mid way through the frame to go up 4-2.  Andrew Jaques from Brady Melton would strike again to get the Oilers close heading to the final two minutes of play.  Timeouts and a pulled goalie couldn't result in the equalizer.  Lambeth wins 4-3.  Great effort boys.

On Saturday, the Oilers were looking for revenge and got on the board early in the second period after Brady Melton tapped home a Jace McGrail shot to put the Oilers on top 1-0.  That lead would be short lived as 8 seconds later Lambeth answered back after a deflected shot off an Oilers D-man laid loose for a tap in past a helpless Noah Bright in the Oilers net.  Game tied 1-1 heading to the third period.

Lambeth came out pressing in the third and scored 2 goals seven minutes apart and put the Oilers on their heels down 3-1  with half a period to go.  The Oilers generated chances but again the Lambeth goalie stymied any opportunities and smothered the rebounds before attacking Oilers could get on them.

Andrew Jaques scored a goal late on a high flip and bouncer past a bewildered Lancer tender.  The Oilers trailed 3-2 with 3 minutes to go but a couple penalties made a comeback push difficult.

Players can be proud of their efforts the past two games and a break here and there or a bounce our way would have given us a chance to tie the games and send it to overtime.

Noah Bright was solid in the Oilers cage.

Tenacious fore-checking by Stokes, King, Wilson, Big Z, Sanderson, Jaques, McGrail and Melton hemmed the Lancers in their own ends for significant periods of time.  Great pinching from the D men...MacDonald, Hull, Crummy and Harse taking time and space away was key these past two games.

Lambeth leads the series 4 points to 0 with game 3 on Tuesday night in Lambeth.
