Letter to PMHA Parents, Families and Volunteers from Petrolia Silver Stick Commitee
November 14, 2014
An Open Letter to All Minor Hockey Parents and Guardians:
The Earle Trevail Memorial Silver Stick Committee feels that it is important that the parents/guardians of the children who have registered with Petrolia
Minor Hockey understand why we have asked you to help us with our post-Christmas tournament. This tournament has raised approximately $275, 000 since the
early 1990’s. All of this money is either directly or indirectly given to Petrolia Minor Hockey to offset registration costs for everyone. To put it
another way, that is over $11,000 or about $25.00 to $30.00 per child on average per year. We realize that the cost to play hockey is getting higher every
year but just imagine what it would be without our donation. It takes a large number of people both actively participating during the week and acting
behind the scenes to make this happen so successfully. We do this willingly, and it should be noted that many of us either never had or now do not have
children in the organization, but we do need your help! Many of you have signed up or will sign up to help with the kitchen, the gate, the penalty box,
etc. Another way that we need your help is with ticket sales. A large portion of the funds we garner each year comes from our Silver Stick raffle. We ask
each year that the parents sell a book or two of these $2.00 tickets. However, the last two years sales from the teams have dropped off. This, obviously,
affects our bottom line and therefore the money we can donate to Minor Hockey. Again this year, we will be having a raffle. We are asking you to help us by
taking and SELLING at least 1 book of 15 tickets. The cost is $2.00 per ticket or 3 tickets for $5.00. Surely you can find a friend or relative to buy a
ticket or two. Finally, we hope that you will come out and enjoy some fine hockey put forth by these energetic and hardworking teenagers during the
Christmas break.
