Petrolia 3 -LaSalle 1
In the most impressive game so far in the Midget AE division of the tournament Petrolia played LaSalle.

LaSalle entered their final game of the round robin with 2 wins over Sarnia and Mooretown.  LaSalle expected to roll over Petrolia with another win as they watched the Oilers the night before narrowly beat Mooretown.

However the Oilers finally came to play.  Early on it was obvious the Sabres were going to play a chippy style and were extremely verbal as during the game they took not one but 2 bench minor penalties.

The Oilers were up for the challenge and matched the Sabres hit for hit and had the team speed to not allow many odd man rushes.  The defense was much improved as was the back-checking.

Curtis Jackson opened the scoring in the first period.

During the second period Petrolia had a lot of time on the power play and controlled the game with many nice chances before Jack Hackett finally scored putting the Oilers up 2-0.

In the 3rd period the frustration spilled over as the Sabres started the cheap shots.  Edward Loerts ended up coming to the aid of Jaret Scarrow but left the game with 9 minutes in penalties and a 3 game suspension.  This game as quite often in Midget hockey has some questionable calls being made by the refs.  Edward did deserve 2 head contact penalties but the major seemed a little steep.

Petrolia ended up playing 9 of the last 11 minutes shorthanded.  The Sabres did close the lead to 1 with a couple good moves, however the defence got caught standing and watching on the play.

Wyatt Card took an opportunity to show his speed and flew down the right side of the ice with the puck, fell down and still scored on what was a highlight reel goal.

The Sabres had no answer for the remainder of the game.

Great team effort and game Petrolia.  Remember there will be a re-match with LaSalle tomorrow afternoon in the final.
