Petrolia 5 - Ayr 3
In the 3rd and final game in the round robin that would decide the overall seeding and who would be eliminated the Oilers faced off against likely the top team in the tournament Ayr.

Ayr came into the final game beating Mt. Brydges in their first game 3-1 and then having a 1-1 tie with Lambton Shores.

This game was set up to be the prelude to the final on Sunday and would prove to be one of the greatest games of the tournament and the year.

Aye currently holds 2nd place in the Southern Counties league and fully expected to roll over Petrolia who currently is in the lower half of the Shamrock league.  However with Midget hockey it depends on which team shows up.

In this game thankfully both teams showed up and proved to be a very entertaining game.

The 1st period had no scoring but had many scoring chances by AyrCody Ewing continued to make save after save and the rest of the team played very good defensive hockey to limit the number of 2nd and 3rd chances before clearing the puck.  This was also a very physical game with many huge body checks.

The scoring finally started in the 2nd period with Ryan Bell scoring on a spin move after being set up by Jack Hacket and Jaret Scarrow with 9:11 remaining.  Ayr tied the game just 2.5 minutes later.  Just over a minute later Jack Hacket scored to give Petrolia the lead again with assists by Eddy Loerts and Ian Wheatley.
Ian Wheatley went on to further Petrolia's lead on a highlight reel goal ending in a slap shot from about 12 feet from the net.  This ended the scoring in a fast paced 2nd period with Petrolia 3- Ayr 1.

In the 3rd period Petrolia took over the play using their speed and determination.  Ryan Bell scored twice to complete his hat trick with two nearly identical goals going 5 hole off the back hand taking great passes from Jacob Friesen.  Ayr did score twice as well in the 3rd but the result was settled.

This may have been the best team win of the year with full effort from every player.
The win secured Petrolia as top team in their pool and in the overall tournament heading into the semi finals.

Fantastic win guys.
