Petrolia 3 - Ingersoll 3
In a game where Petrolia could take the outright lead in the overall league standings the Oilers travelled to Ingersoll for a 9:30 pm start.

Ingersoll Express Minor came out in the 1st period flying and showed little respect for the Oilers top ranking.  The Oilers would have to learn that respect is earned again this night.

Ingersoll scored 2 quick goals on mental errors made by the Oilers in their own zone.  Yes that guy in front of the net that is not being covered can score.  Petrolia did wake up and start to roll half way through the opening frame.

The second period saw some serious body contact from Chris Docherty and the hit everyone is still talking about Ian Wheatley. When Petrolia decided to start giving a few hits the offense really started to roll with numerous odd man rushes, a few breakaways.  Ryan Bell scored off a great set up from Jarret Scarrow and Tom Jacques scored after stickhandling demonstration held by Chris Docherty.  Jack Hackett tried his famous move with the clock winding down on a breakaway but did not score.  At the end of 2 period the score was tied 2-2.

This night also was filled with many penalties, some warranted, some phantom.  Petrolia did outplay Ingersoll in the 3rd period but it seemed that a penalty was in order every time Petrolia would sustain any length of pressure.  Coach Bell is still unsure why a linesman feels the need to be inside the blueline during the play other than the obvious to help keep the puck in the Petrolia zone.  This happened at least 5 times.  Ingersoll scored with 6  minutes remaining to take a 3-2 lead.  Scoring late in a game to take the lead usually spells victory but not on this night.  The Oilers went to work the final minutes and found a way to set up Jack Hackett to get the equalizer.

The 3rd line of Ryan Mac Alpine, Nick Friesen and Curtis Jackson also created a good number of chances but couldn't find a way to finish this night.

Cody Ewing stood tall when called upon late in the game.

This ended up being the 3rd tie for the Oilers this season but showed what a slow start can do and how this team has some heart to keep working and find a way to get back in the game.

Next up on Sunday is South Kent.  South Kent is tied for the lead in the league and this game could determine the early season league leader.  Puck drop 7:20 pm Petrolia.
Great work team.
