Express Advance to Silverstick Final with Win over Oilers
The Atom Oilers bowed out of Silverstick with a 6-1 loss to the powerhouse squad from Ingersoll. The better team won today and showed why they are having great success this season and are one of the Top Teams in Ontario.
The Express, slow starters fell behind again today in the first period as the Oilers came out with some fire and battled for every inch of the ice. The Oilers scored first on a goal from Andrew Jaques unassisted.
The Oilers goal seemed to wake up the Express as they quickly found their skating legs and starting pressing the pace which turned into goals. The first period ended in a 1-1 tie. Kento Gudz made several stellar saves in the Oilers net to keep the Oilers in the game early.
In the second period the Express scored three goals in 1 minute and 20 seconds to open the flood gates and provide an insurmountable lead that they would only build on in the third. With the score 4-1, goalie Kento Gudz was lifted in favour of Noah Bright. It was more of move to try to spark the Oilers to keep working rather than poor play.
Both goalies made great saves and the Oilers were outshot 19-17 on the game. Ingersoll was the better team and again showed the Oilers how to play as a team and use the entire ice. Penalties were 4 aside and Ingersoll scored one powerplay goal.

A Big thanks to all the fans and relatives who came out to support the team over the tournament and the delicious cookies from Zach's Grandma. Thanks to Shot Tracker Wilson for keeping stats for the coaches as well. The team loved the fan support.
Also a big thanks to the Alvinston Silverstick Comittee and Volunteers for putting on a great tournament and for feeding the kids after every game, a nice gesture and the kids and parents appreciated it greatly.
Happy New Year Oilers Nation.
