Oilers Struck By Lightning Again
The Atom Oilers went down to defeat 4-1 against the South Kent Lightning in their final match before the Christmas Break. The game was a sloppy affair and with new line combinations and new players in the line-up, little chemistry or flow to the game was established. Then history repeated itself once again with a rash of third period penalties which killed any thoughts of a comeback.
The Lightning struck first in the second period to open the scoring 1-0 and it remained that way until the third. The Lightning would go up 2-0 before Jace McGrail was sent in by Brady Melton and Noah Harse and made it 2-1. That would be as close as the Oilers would get as the Lightning potted another on the powerplay to go up 3-1 and would add an empty netter to seal the win at 4-1.
The Oilers took 14 minutes in penalties, 10 of which were in the third period alone.
Noah Bright started in net and was tagged with the loss. Kento Gudz came in part way through the third period in relief of Bright.
The Oilers played without Andrew Jaques nursing an injured hand. AP call ups Logan Crummy and Miller Mailloux played as well.
The Oilers now have a stiff Silverstick Tournament to play beginning on Boxing Day with Mt Brydges followed by games vs Wallaceburg and Ingersoll.
