Oilers Split a Pair of Weekend Games
The Atom Rep Oilers continue to try to find consistency in their game after defetaing the East Lambton Eagles handily 10-5 on Friday Night only to have a lead and not be able to hold it on Saturday against a good Strathroy Team falling 8-6 to the Rockets.

On Friday Night vs the Eagles, it was a close game through one period as the Eagles took the lead 1-0 half way through the period on a giveaway in the Petrolia end.  Petrolia tied it with three minutes to go in the first on a shot by William Hull unassisted.

Heading to the Second Period, Petrolia started to pull away scoring six unanswered goals to take a 7-1 lead heading to the third.  Scoring in the second period barrage was; Noel Sanderson, Jace McGrail (2), Andrew Jaques (2) and Brady Melton.  Earning assists on second period goals were Noah Harse, McGrail and Owen Stokes.

In the third, coaches moved players around to different positions but still managed to score three more times while allowing 4 Eagles goals in the third.  Third period goals were scored by Jaques, Melton and Hull.  Third period assists were by Sanderson and McGrail.

Petrolia had two power plays while giving East Lambton three chances on the powerplay.

Kento Gudz earned the victory in net.  Final Score 10-5 Petrolia.

On Saturday against a very skilled Strathroy team, the Oilers came out firing but ran out of steam and couldn't finish the job falling 8-6to Strathroy.

In the first period, Strathroy opened the scoring and had a lead for a minute before Petrolia answered back with 2 goals in 74 seconds to take a 2-1 lead to the intermission.  Scoring for Petrolia was Andrew Jaques and William Hull.  Hull and McGrail earned assists on the goals. The second period saw numerous breakdowns on defensive zone coverage as Oilers chased the puck all over the place leaving Rockets players open in key areas.  Strathroy scored 5 times in the second period as the Oilers coiuld only muster 2 goals of their own.

Scoring in the second frame was Andrew Jaques with two goals with an assist from Noah Harse.  Strathroy led 6-4 heading to the third period.

In the third period, Petrolia scored twice more to tie the game at 6 goals apiece  with just under 7 minutes to go.  Goals were both scored by Jaques and both assisted by McGrail.  However as the recent trend continued, when the Oilers took three third period penalties and depleted the energy stores and ended up giving up 2 more Rocket goals in the final 3min and 45 sec. to lose 8-6.

The loss of D-man Stanley MacDonald is taking a toll on a tired and over-worked defensive unit and are awaiting his hopeful return to the line-up sooner than later.

Noah Bright started in net for the Oilers but was relieved by Kento Gudz after the second period blitzkrieg by the Rockets.  Both goalies made big saves to keep the Oilers in contention.

Game Notes: According to sources, Strathroy has only given up 8 goals against all year so scoring 6 on them was a good accomplishment.

Now on to Southpoint Capitals Tournament next weekend.

Good Luck Oilers.
