OILERS FALL TO FLAGS 6-3
The Atom Rep Oilers came out strong and controlled the play and lead half the game until a 31second span in the second period when Mooretown scored three times.
The Oilers got on the board first at the 6:31 mark of the first period on a nifty play by Jace McGrail as he squeaked it between the goalie's pads and arm to jump out to a 1-0 lead. That was quickly squandered 27seconds later when Mooretown tied it up 1-1.
Andrew Jaques would then score a goal that went in and out of the net quickly but counted for a goal. Oilers up 2-1 heading to the Second Period.
Halfway through the second period, the Oilers wheels sort of fell off, surrendering the lead by giving up 3 goals in 31seconds....quite possibly an ATOM record of sorts. The Oilers trailed 4-2 heading to the intermission.
In the third, the Oilers got back to basics and started skating hard again and picking up their checks and digging hard along the boards but a costly penalty allowed another powerplay which Mooretown capitalized on. Mooretown 5- Petrolia 2. Some nice hard work on the boards by Reid King and Zach Wilson ended up in an odd man rush and Kinger let a Zinger go along the ice and found its way into the net. 5-3 Mooretown. That would be as close as the Oilers would get as Mooretown iced the game with just under two minutes remaining to seal the victory 6-3.
The penalties in the game were Oilers- 6 minors and Mooretown - 2.
The Oilers now prepare for another roadie, to Dorchester on Tuesday Night.
