Oilers vs Flags
Atom Rep Oilers secure their first home win during battle with Mooretown!

The Oilers hosted the rival Flags at the Greenwood Rec Centre Oct 3rd in search of their first home win of the season. The Oilers edged the Flags 3-2 in a very hard fought game.

The boys got the scoring started in the 1st period with a goal by Miller Mailloux assisted by Zac Wilson and Logan Crummy. Mooretown tied the game 1 -1 at the 6:45 mark of the second period on a deflection off an Oiler defenseman which goalie Noah Bright had no chance on. Noel Sanderson quickly restored the Oiler lead with a snipe later in the frame assisted by Tyler McGrail and Rhett Joy.

The boys took a 2-1 lead into the 3rd and were out shooting the Flags by a large margin but the Flags didn’t give up and managed to tie the game mid-way through the 3rd.

Each team traded scoring chances and powerplay opportunities which seemed to escalate the intensity of the game. The Refs were busy during the last minutes of the game handing out a number of penalties trying to keeping both teams under control.

With the Oilers on the PP, Will Hull scored a beauty goal with a wrister from the point that caught the inside of the post to go top corner at the 1:49 mark of the final frame which ended up being the game winner. This was a very entertaining game to watch and likely the roughest game ever for the majority of the players. The boys never got intimidated and played tough and will now know what to expect during the season.
