Oilers Battle Mt. Brydges But Suffer 3-2 Loss
The Petrolia Novice Oilers battled the Mt. Brydges Cougars for the 6th time this season and still have not been able to get a win.  Again it was a close affair and went down to the wire and ended with a familiar one goal victory in favour of Mt. Brydges  3-2.

The Boys were playing hard today and wanted the win for their Teammate Shane Knight who was attending his great grandpa's funeral in Winnipeg.  The boys competed hard and welcomed the extra ice time and worked as a team.

Mt. Brydges scored near the end of the first period when a scramble left a puck in the high slot and the Cougars D-men walked into a hard wrister that found the back of the net.  Goalie Kento Gudz had no chance on the play.

The Oilers got on the board in the 2nd Period with the only goal of the period on a ruch down the right side by Jace McGrail.  McGrail went wide and cut in and slipped the puck under the arm of the Cougars goalie.  Game tied 1-1 after two periods of play.

The Oilers came out strong in the third period and got the go ahead goal whe Noel Sanderson spotted Zach Wilson on the far side and Wilson let go a ripper of wrist shot that found the back of the net.  Oilers up 2-1 with 10 minutes to go.

Mt. Brydges would not quit and kept attacking the zone and on a play similar to the first goal Mt. Brydges picked up a loose puck in the high slot and buried a wrister to tie it up.  With time winding down, 1:37 left in the game, Mt. Brydges capitalized on an Oiler turnover and scored the go ahead goal to make it 3-2.

Petrolia called a time out and pulled Goalie Kento Gudz for an extra attacker.  The puck was in the Mt. Brydges zone most of the time but the Oilers could not get the puck on net for a good scoring chance.

A great effort by the entire team.  We now move on the OMHA 1/4 Finals against....who else?  Mt. Brydges Cougars.  The 6point Series starts Monday in Mt. Brydges.

Keep it up Boys, we know we can beat these guys, we just have to keep working.

Zach Wilson received the Team Helmet for his hard work and nice goal on his always improving shot.

Pheonix Timmington and Logan Crummy rotated through the lines at centre and played well throughout the game.  Many wingers stepped up and played extra shifts when players needed breaks for illness, injuries and fatigue.
Great Game Team.
