Oilers Down Warriors in Penalty Filled Game
The Oilers skated away with a 2-0 victory in Wallaceburg after a season high record setting 30 minutes in penalties(combined teams) and a Wallaceburg coach ejection.
The Oilers came out hard and pressured Wallaceburg the entire game. Lots of missed nets and inopportune offsides kept the game a low scoring, close affair but Wallaceburg didn't mount much of a threat as they repeatedly made a steady stream to the penalty box taking 10 penalties. Petrolia was nailed for 5 penalties and killed them all off.
Scoring for Petrolia was William Hull on a nice rush and deked around the defensemen to send him in alone. Hull's goal was assisted by Reed Douglas.
Shane Knight scored the 2nd goal after Phoenix Timmington and Miller Mailloux all had chances but couldn't get the puck through to the goalie. Knight's goal was assisted by Timmington and Maxim Egan.
Many players got a chance to play with different linemates and different positions tonight when penalty trouble arose. Great job Oilers.
Kento Gudz was solid in net and made the saves when called upon and earned the shutout.
The Oilers now finish out the seeding round Saturday vs Mt. Brydges before moving on to the quarter finals.
Maxim Egan earned the Team hard hat for his solid defensive play and great pinches at the blueline to hold pucks in all game long.
Petrolia coaches, players and parents are to be commended on being well behaved and mannerly throughout the contest in a somewhat hostile environment.
Keep up the great efforts.
