Lambeth Nips Oilers 4-3
The Novice Oilers again proved they can compete with the top teams but too many mistakes proved costly today falling again 4-3 to Lambeth.
The Oilers were pumped and ready to get Nate-Dogger a win for his birthday but quickly fell behind 1-0 on the first shift as Lambeth's #11 Noah Nelson split the D off the opening faceoff and fired a low shot past Oiler's netminder Kento Gudz.
Zach Wilson tied it up for the Oilers when he went hard to the net with his stick on the ice and was johnny on the spot after Nathan Perry fired a shot on net and the rebound kicked right to Wilson. Noel Sanderson also got an assist. Tied 1-1 after one period.
The Oilers battled hard all period but gave up another goal in the final 30seconds to the same #11 Noah Nelson of Lambeth.
Down 2-1 heading to the 3rd Period, an ill-advised shift change left the Lancers with a 2 on 0 and they made no mistake. Lambeth up 3-1. A couple minutes later a bad clearing pass ended up on the Lancers stick in the slot and a high wrister made it 4-1.
Will Hull made a mad dash down the ice and scored an unassisted goal to make it 4-2. With just over a minute remaining, The Oilers called a time out and pulled the goalie for an extra attacker. With 35 seconds remaining the Oilers banged home a scramble to make it 4-3. Credit was given to Hull for the goal assisted by Jace McGrail, however Hull said it was McGrail assisted by Hull. Either way, it was an exciting finish.
Keep playing hard Oilers.
Next up is Wallaceburg on Tuesday.
