Oilers Drop Close One in Mt. Brydges 3-2
The Oilers Travelled to Mt. Brydges Sunday morning for an 11am game vs the Cougars. Unable to beat Mt. Brydges thus far in 4 games this year, the Oilers were ready to do battle.
The Oilers came out flying and quickly took the lead after relentless forechecking from the Phoenix Timmington, Reid King, Reed Douglas line kept the Cougars hemmed in their own end. The puck eventually made its way to the front of the net and Reid King banged it home. Timmington and Douglas drew assists. Two Minutes later, Mt. Brydges tied it up at 1-1.
Mt Brydges scored in the second to make it 2-1 and again early in the third to make it 3-1. The Oilers never quit and kept pressing. Down to 1:11, a timeout was called and Kento Gudz was lifted in favour of the extra attacker. A plan was drawn up and the 6 man attack forced the puck to the front of the net and started banging away. With just under 17 seconds left Jace McGrail banged in a lose puck making it 3-2. No assists were recorded on the goal but about 4 Oilers had whacks at the puck before it went in.
Again, with 16.6 seconds left and a scrambled face-off, the clock ran down just as the Oilers got the puck to the Mt. Brydges blueline. Final score 3-2 for Mt. Brydges. This marks the 5th game this year vs Mt. Brydges that has been decided by 2 goals or less, unfortunately all in favour of Mt. Brydges. One more crack at them boys. Keep working.
Brady Busby-Mceachen earned the Team helmet for his good passing out of his zone and shot blocking in the slot area.
Great Job Oilers.
