Oilers in Tough at MoTown Tourney.
The Novice Reps found themselves in tough at the MoTown Cup Tournament in Detroit this weekend. Placed in the AA division, The Oilers had tough competition and tough times to play but they battled hard and played their best under the circumstances.
In Game 1, the Oilers faced a tough Chicago Sabres team and lead 1 to 0 after one period. The Oilers goal came on a crazy deflection when Jace McGrail passed back to Brady Busby McEachen who shot the puck and deflected off McGrail's shoulder and got by a helpless Sabres goalie. All three Sabres goals came off rebounds when Kento Gudz made the original saves but Oilers players could not clear the rebounds. The game ended 3 to 1. Trainer Sanderson awarded the team helmet to Jace McGrail.
In Game 2, the Oilers faced a fast Skokie Flyers team from Illinois and despite having lots of chances, could not solve the Flyers goalie who made tough saves look easy all day long. The final score was 3 to 0.
Coach Hull awarded the team helmet to Maxim Egan.
In game 3, vs league rival Lambeth....the Oilers hung in and battled hard and were trailing 3to2 after two periods and that was as close as they could get falling 5 to 2. Oilers goals were scored by Brady Busby-McEachen and Jace McGrail. No assists were recorded for either goal. Kento Gudz made great saves and again was left alone as opportunities to tie up men or swipe loose rebounds away were squandered.
Trainer Arty presented the team helmet to Reid King.
Great effort to all Oilers players. You played hard and gave what you had.
Thanks for a great weekend of team bonding at the hotel. Can't wait til the next one.
