Novice Reps Bow out of Silverstick in Semis
The Novice Oilers entered the Semi Finals of Parkhill Silverstick against the Powerhouse squad from Lambeth. The Oilers heard stories prior to the game about David and Goliath, Knights vs Plymouth, The Miracle on Ice from 1980 and they knew that anything was possible if they played with heart and played with passion and did whatever they could to win.
Well, the pep talks, and cliches were quickly thrown by the wayside as the Lambeth Lancers were not going to let Petrolia slay the Giant on this day. The Oilers were scored on the first shift and quickly fell behind 5-0 after the first 10minutes period. The few chances the Oilers had were stopped by a very good goalie.
After one shift in the second period, the Oilers found themselves down 6-0 but refused to quit and kept putting forth a strong effort and competing hard. The Oilers got rewarded for their hardwork as Lambeth took a penalty and sent the Oilers to the powerplay. Just 10 seconds into the powerplay Noel Sanderson won a draw to Jace McGrail who back handed a shot past the goalie to make it 6-1.
Lambeth would add another goal late in the third to seal the victory 7-1 and advance to the finals.
Lambeth ended up winning the Silverstick 4-2 over Ilderton and advanced to the International Silverstick Tournament in St. Clair Shores, Michigan.
Brady Busby-McEachen was selected as Game MVP for Petrolia.
Congratualtions to all players and coaches for your efforts over the course of the 4 games in Parkhill.
