Oilers Prey on Predators
The Petrolia Oilers visited THE SHORES Arena in Forest for a matinee meeting with the Predators. After a slow start with penalties on both sides, the teams settled down and played a hard fought game with the Oilers coming out on top 6-1.
The Oilers scored 2 goals in each period, leading 2-1 after 1 period, 4-1 after 2 periods and finishing with the 6-1 score.
At times, The Oilers showed great passing plays and/or attempts at passing but other times had the 'selfish' bug and tried to do too much individually. Opening the scoring was Jace McGrail on a face off feed from Reed Douglas and a high wrister from the point found the back of the net. The next goal was likely the most exciting of the night as the pregame talk was focused on getting Zach Wilson his first goal to get him going. The Oilers did just that as Pheonix Timmington and Will Hull worked the puck down low to Zach who notched his first goal of the season on a wrist shot from close range. The team was going ballistic on the ice and on the bench and Zach's smile could be seen all the way back to Petrolia.
With the Oilers up 2-1, McGrail scored twice more on breakaways, both assisted by fellow D-man Brady Busby- McEachen to make it 4-1. Shane Knight would get a flukey unassisted goal on a dump-in from outside the blueline and found its way dribbling through the goalie's five-hole.
With the Oilers Leading 5-1, Will Hull (unassisted) ended the scoring on a mad rush down the right side and wristed a shot high over the outstretched glove hand of the goalie. Final Score 6-1.
Kento Gudz was solid again in net making several saves including a breakaway and covering the puck quickly.
The hardest working player helmet was presented to Zach Wilson by Coach Scott after the game.
The Oilers practice Monday and prepare for another busy weekend of 3 games in 3 days against great competition in Strathroy, St. Thomas, and Mt. Brydges.
