Oilers Sting the Sarnia Minor Novice MD
The Sarnia Sting Minor Novice MD Team buzzed into to Petrolia Saturday for an exhibition game vs the Novice Reps Oilers only to be handed a 7to1 defeat.
Solid, agressive skating and some unselfish passing from the Oilers prevented the younger Sting Squad from getting much offense started. The Oilers were buzzing around the offensive zone all game. Quick goals by Nathan Perry on a sweet little dish from Pheonix Timmington from behind the net opened the scoring.
With the Oilers up 1 to 0, they kept pouring it on and a couple nice rushes and shots over the goalie's outstretched glove by Will Hull put the Oilers up 4-0. Nathan Perry would add another from close range, tucking it in the far corner of the net along the ice , upping the score to 5-0. Reed Douglas notched another marker to put the game out of reach at 6to0.
Jace McGrail would finish the Oiler scoring on a close range roof job to the top of the net just under the crossbar.
With the score 7-0, the Oilers started to scramble and take ill advised chances and rushes which lead to more offensive opportunities for the Sting who popped a shot just over an outstretched blocker of Oiler goalie, Kento Gudz. Final score 7-1.
Zach Wilson and Reed King had numerous scoring chances in tight but were snake bitten.
The Oilers are now focusing on preparations to defend the Blenheim Blades of Steel Title this weekend.
