Strathroy 5- Petrolia 2
In the highly anticipated rematch the Oilers came to town to try to take 2 points and stay ahead of the Rockets in league play.
The Oilers were ready to do battle with a very strong physical Strathroy team.
The 1st period was a slow tempo with much of the play in Petrolia's end of the rink. The Oilers struggled to link passes together and get many shots on goal. Strathroy opened the scoring mid way through the period.
Edward Loerts tied things up on a dump in from close to centre ice. The Oilers felt relieved to have tied things up after the poor play earlier in the period. This feeling turned from joy to frustration in less than 10 seconds as Strathroy came right down the ice to go back ahead a goal on the next play.
The second period could be divided in half with Strathroy carrying the play in the first half and then finally the Oilers came to life and started to match the physical play hit for hit. This strategy turned into scoring chances and finally power plays. Petrolia was down 3-1 before gaining some momentum and having 2 five on three power play opportunites. Hayden Gould scored in the closing minute to make the game 3-2 going into the flood.
The 3rd period Petrolia came out and had more chances on the power play but failed to find a way to get the equalizer. Noah Smith played a stellar night making some ridiculous stops. Strathroy finally put the game away on a couple bad turnovers by Petrolia defencemen and the Rockets made no mistake in taking those opportunities.
The Oilers next game is against the top Minor Midget team in the league at this time in Lucan.
