Notes
The second last game of the round robin series saw the St Thomas Stars travel to Oil town and take on the Petrolia Oilers.
The Stars won the previous game 2-1 in what could be described as a truly ugly style of hockey game played by both teams. This game would prove to be much different as both teams elevated their games to top form.
The Oilers could take home ice advantage and advance to the A Final for the Shamrock league by winning their final two games of the round robin. The coaching staff challenged the team to bring their top performance.
The team responded by playing one of their best games of the season. Unfortunately St Thomas also played at this level of play and the game was pretty much even as the scoreboard showed after two periods of play.
The Oilers were caught on an odd man rush early in the final period. Goal tender Kuipers stopped the initial shot but the rebound went directly to the point where a trailing Star got a slap shot off before being covered. Kuipers also turned this shot aside but the rebound went directly onto the original shooter on the rush and this time he snapped home the go ahead goal.
Petrolia cranked up the heat but could not cook up a way to tie the game. Late in the 3rd Kuipers was pulled to send on an extra attacker. This resulted in some chances but no goal forthcame. Instead the Stars managed an empty net goal to go ahead 2-0. With only seconds left Dawson Feenstra score a nice goal to bring the final score 2-1 for St Thomas.
This locked up home ice advantage for the Stars for the finals.
