The Oilers travelled to Mt Brydges to take on the regular season undefeated Cougars.  The Oil lost both earlier matchups 2-0 and 6-1.

Mt Brydges went through the first round of OMHA playdowns vs St Marys and had to wait for Strathroy to finish up with Petrolia.  Strathroy made quick work of the Cougars taking them down in 3 games.

Mt Brydges then kicked back into league play and being the highest ranked team in the league they rolled back into this round robin series with St Thomas and Petrolia.

St Thomas lost out to Chatham in OMHA playdowns and then rolled over Dorchester in a head to matchup in league playoffs.

St Thomas and Mt Brydges played 2 games prior to the meeting between Petrolia and Mt Brydges.  Mt Brydges won the first game 3-0 and St Thomas won the second game 3-1.  Each team having 2 points after 2 games played with 2 games remaining.

Petrolia rolled into town after going 2 and 2 in their round robin series with St Marys and Thamesford.

The Oil came out and played excellent hockey in this game.  They played a disciplined style of aggressive hockey that took the Cougars off their game early and saw the Oilers with many power plays.  The Oilers dominated the first two periods of play with the only thing standing in the way of a huge lead was the Mt Brydges goalie.  Petrolia headed into the break up 2-0.For the first time this year Petrolia had a lead over the top ranked club and had 15 minutes to go to a victory.

The third period saw a back and forth battle with Petrolia still getting more shots and chances than Mt Brydges but the Cougars did come up big in the final frame with two goals from bad angles to tie things up.  Netminder Cameron MacAlpine played a sold game for the Oilers.  The breakdowns in the 3rd period came from players not taking the effort to get the puck all the way out of the d-zone or to get the puck deep into the offensive zone.

This was a big effort by all players and if the guys can take this momentum into tonights matchup we should have a great game with St Thomas. We control our destiny in these playoffs.  We have the opportunity to play for the A championship in our league.  With 3 or 4 more points we will get to the finals.  We also have the opportunity to take home ice advantage.  It is there for the taking.  Lets go hard to the finish.  We have improved a great deal this year guys.  Lets keep this well Oiled machine going.
