Submitted By Karis Sylvester on Wed 10 26, 22
The Petrolia Oilers U11 B team travelled into Ingersoll for their first tournament of the year. The boys battled hard all weekend and returned to Petrolia with gold medals around their necks!

The Oilers started their weekend off with a tight game against the Ilderton Jets. After a slow start and giving up a 2-0 lead, Colin Campbell netted a short handed goal late in the first period to cut the lead in half. Midway through the second period Willy Edgar setup Colton Scott to tie the game! Liam "Soupy" Campbell made some big saves the rest of the way to keep this game tied 2-2 after 3 periods.

Saturday was a a big doubleheader day with the boys squaring off against the host Ingersoll Express in the morning game. The Express potted the first goal of the game late in the first period, but Bryson Bell responded on the next shift out to tie the game before the first intermission. After the first intermission it was all Oilers as they stopped the Express in their tracks with goals from Colin, Bryson, Will, Gavin Helps, Ben Meyskens & Rhys Nesdoly. Once the dust settled on the tracks the final score was 8-1 Oilers!

The second game of the doubleheader had the Oilers facing off against the Ayr Flames. With a win, the team was guaranteed a spot in the championship game. Colin kicked off the scoring midway through the first period. Gavin "Curly" Laur netted his first of the tournament half way through the second which ended up being the game winning goal. The Oilers netted 5 more goals in the game from Colin, Curly, Bryson and Helpsy to extinguish the Flames and book their ticket into the finals the next day.

The gold medal game was a rematch against Ilderton. The team was in tough against a strong Jets team. Ilderton once again jumped out to a 1-0 lead half way through the second period. Not to be left behind, Colin made some magnificent plays to pot 2 goals before the second period was over. The team came out strong quickly in the 3rd period when a point shot deflected off Colton into the net. The Jets were not ready to be sent to their hanger yet as they responded 90 seconds later to cut the lead 3-2. The back and forth battle continued until Will and Colin added some insurance goals. The Jets would add another goal with 3 minutes left to cut the lead to 5-3. From there on out the Oilers played solid defense and grounded the Jets to claim their first tournament victory of the season!

All of the boys battled hard all weekend and gave their maximum effort every game. Soupy guarded the net with pristine and coming up with big saves when the team needed it. Colin led the offensive attack with his mesmerizing dangles. Willy, Curly and Bryson battled hard for pucks in both the offensive and defensive zones. Colton was a thorn in front of the net. Rhys and Helpsy worked hard, winning puck battles and getting the pucks in deep when we needed it. James was force before having to leave due to injury. Cam, X, Charlie and Ben played solid D all weekend and didn't give the opposition many chances to get pucks close to Soupy.

Head coach, Chris McPhail and his staff of Ed Campbell, Tyler Scott, Brent Campbell and Randy Meyskens coached a strong 4 games to help the team strike oil in Ingersoll!
