The Petrolia Oilers are Champions of The Doug Kennedy Classic Tournament again in 2024, marking back to back victories.
The tournament began Friday with a 2-2 tie versus Listowel, goals coming from Roen Douglas and Adam Valiquette. The second match of the day was a dandy, with a 6-0 decision over Saugeen Shores. Roen Douglas again made the gamesheet with the first goal at 2:11 in the first, followed by Nate Reidhead at the 3:01 mark. Issac Disher added to the lead while Nate Reidhead chipped in for two more completing the "hat trick". Saturday evening fans witnessed a nail-biter when the Oilers faced off against South Huron, the tilt requiring overtime that saw Nate Reidhead with a golden goal to take the teeth out of the Sabres and send them home vegetarians. Sunday morning the Oilers faced off against an old nemisis, Lambton Shores skating to a 5-2 win, Issac Disher buried the biscuit twice, while Douglas, Valiquette and Lucas Johnson each hit the cheese to secure a spot in the finals. The championship game was a rematch versus Listowel that showcased not only the talent on the ice, but Head Coach Paul Bolten's cunning and game sense. In a cracker jack of game, the Oilers skated to victory with goals from Reidhead, Valiquette, Douglas and Tayt Stonehouse to secure the tournament victory and calm the Cyclones to a mere breeze. Congratulations Oilers, well played and well deserved!
