Kincardine 2014
Although we didn't make the finals Midget Rep 2014 provided a very entertaining and exciting brand of hockey in this years Kincardine tournament. Highlight reel goal scoring to relentless grinding and some spectacular saves.
Connor McPhail got us going with a beauty slapshot in our first game against Penetanguishene. But bad penalties and not capitalizing on chances handed us our first loss. So right off the bat we were behind in the tournament. There were some iffy calls from the Ref but a team should play past that. 4-2 Penetanguishene.
Second game against Goderich we won 4-1 against a very chippy team. They tried to antagonize our boys but we showed character and got more goals out of young Connor who really stepped up his game strong defensive work from Brandon Smith and a nice goal from Isaac MaClean (if I spell your name wrong tell me) put us past a team that was bent on getting us off our game. Matt played well stopping some key in close shots.
In game three everyone had a chance to bring their shooting prowess against a completely outmatched Mt Forest team Noah gained a shutout and our boys ran up a nine nothing (our manager informed me) that the final score was ten nothing. No matter Mt Forest didn't like being on the losing end of the scoresheet and ran one of our players. Before we could get the boys off the ice a brouhaha ensued end the Ref sent everyone off the ice with time remaining on the clock and we lost a few key players.
In the final game to decide what team would got to the playoffs we came up against a good Kincardine goalie. But being down to a smaller bench and missing players who can decide a game, it made the rest of our squad step and pick up the slack. Trent carried the play with some solid hits and puck handling and Dylan getting us on the board wtih a nice goal early. It then came down to Matt and his defense keeping us in the game as T.J and Evan had some really nice scoring chances but couldn't finish as the goal posts helped the Kincardine goalie stay our boys. With time winding down we went into Overtime tied one to one. Then the Burrows kid who was just released from the Kincardine Bulldog J.r C team skated down and shot on Matt, who came up with the save but the puck had enough momentum to carry over and end up in our net. The boys played great you couldn't ask for more but a squeaker put us back on twenty one highway. All you can think about is how our team pulled together and became a very closer unit. I'm proud of you guys and I can't help but think of what this team can accomplish in their futures.
