Schedule & Results, Midget Minor, U18, 2013-2014 (Petrolia Minor Hockey)

The Oilers took the ice for the second time Friday night to challenge the undefeated South Point Capitals.  South Point earlier in the tournament beat Erie North Shore 2-1, the same team that earlier in the day beat Petrolia 5-0.

The Oilers came out with a different attitude in this game and played inspired hockey from the opening puck drop.  The 1st period saw a lot of fast paced action and both teams iced the puck many times to relieve the pressure.  South Point did get a fluky goal with just a minute and a half left in the first period to get the entire point for the period.

The second period was the best hockey the young Oiler team has put together this year.  Somehow the puck didn't find its way to the back of the net as the Oilers had scoring chance after scoring chance but could not finish.  South Point had a few chances also but could not add to their lead.  The period ended up where it started with the Capitals having a 1-0 lead.

The 3rd period also saw a lot of excellent hockey.  The Oilers did begin to tire and against this level of competition it does not take much to see the puck end up in your net.  The Oilers made a couple of mental errors and had a few penalties that gave opportunity to the Capitals to get 2 more goals and finish the game 3-0.

The Oilers should be excited to have given South Shore such a run for their money in this one as it is early in the season and this is just a sign of what the Oilers potential can be this season.

South Point asked for a rematch game in October as they were very impressed with our team.  Congrats guys on a huge effort by the entire team.
