Silver Medal for the Atom AE Oilers
Congratulations to the Atom AE Oilers who were awarded a Silver Medal this weekend in the Strathroy AE Olympics.

The boys played their first game on Friday with a 6-2 win over the Ilderton Jets.  Justin Oliver started the game off with a goal in the first period off of Austyn Gauld.  Hunter Carron added to the score, assisted by Logan Harding and Carter Sayers, but the Jets came back with 2 goals of their own to tie the score at 2-2.  Proving they weren't to be outdone, Harding slipped one past the Ilderton goalie assisted by Ethan Marks and Oliver added another one at the end of the 2nd period to move the Oilers ahead 4-2.  Heading into the 3rd period, defenseman Jordan Morley scored an unassisted goal and Carter Sayers assisted by Baylee Morrison scored the final goal to secure the score at 4-2 for the Oilers.  In net for the Oilers was Ryan Oliver and MVP of the game went to Jordan Morley.

The Oilers dominated their 2nd game on Friday against the Elmvale Coyotes, skating away with a 14-2 win.  Goals went to Austyn Gauld (2), Justin Oliver (4), Rawson Donald, Ethan Marks (2), Brady Melton, Logan Harding, Colin Whiting and Hunter Carron (2).  Assists went to Kolby Wilson (2), Harding (3), Marks, Carter Sayers (3), Baylee Morrison, Peyton Wright (2), Carron, Jayden Park (2) and Brody Anderson.  In net for the Oilers was Wyatt Currie and MVP of the game went to Colin Whiting.

The Oilers met up with the Mt. Brydges Cougars for their first game on Saturday and came away with a 5-1 win.  The team started off slow and struggled to get a handle on the puck and get it past the Cougars goalie.  The Cougars took an early 1-0 lead and held it until well into the 2nd period.  The Oilers rallied back though after 2 back to back goals by Marks assisted by Harding, Morley and Wright which gave them the boost that they needed.  Carron was next to put one past the Cougars goalie, assisted by Morrison and Wright followed by Harding assisted by Wright and then Oliver assisted by Harding for a final score of 5-1.  In net for the Oilers was Ryan Oliver and MVP of the game went to Ethan Marks.

In their 2nd game on Saturday, the Oilers outplayed the Tavistock Titans beating them 7-0.  Oiler goals went to Carron (3), Harding, Oliver, Sayers and Anderson with assists to Marks (2), Kolby Wilson, Donald and Gauld.  MVP of the game went to Hunter Carron and earning a shut out for the Oilers was Wyatt Currie.

The Oilers earned their way to the Gold Medal Championship game facing off against the hometown team, the Strathroy Junior Rockets on Sunday morning.  The game proved to be an intense one from start to finish with all the boys playing hard, never letting up.  Oliver opened the scoring for the Oilers, but the Rockets were able to match it, leaving the score tied at 1-1 for the remainder of the game.  The 1st OT period proved to be a nail biter, but the score remained tied, necessitating a 3 on 3 double OT.  Unfortunately, despite their strong effort, the Oilers were unable to stop the Rockets from scoring and the game ended in a 2-1 score for the hometown team.

The Atom AE team should be proud as their efforts were rewarded with a Silver Medal.  MVP honours for the final game went to goalie, Ryan Oliver for his tremendous work in net.
