Weekend Wins for the Atom AE Oilers
The Atom AE Oilers skated away with 2 wins on the weekend, defeating the North Middlesex Stars 3-2 on Saturday and the Mt. Brydges Cougars 8-1 on home ice on Sunday.
The team headed to Parkhill on Saturday for an intense, close game. The Oilers struggled to get control of the puck and found themselves behind North Middlesex 1-0 in the first period. But 2 short-handed goals by Justin Oliver and Logan Harding in the 2nd and 3rd periods, and another goal by Brody Anderson put our team ahead for a 3-2 final. Peyton Wright had the only assist of the game. Both goaltenders, Ryan Oliver and Wyatt Currie played well in the net.
Sunday's home game against the Mt. Brydges Cougars proved to be more of a team effort with the Atom AE's working together to defeat the Cougars 8-1. Mt. Brydges slid an early goal past our team to take the lead 1-0, but it proved to be their only goal of the game as the Oilers came together to outplay the Cougars. Justin Oliver started us off with a goal assisted by Jayden Park. He added 2 more later earning his hat trick for the game, assisted by Ethan Marks and Brody Anderson. Hunter Carron was next to slip a single-handed goal into the Cougar's net. The power play team of Logan Harding, Oliver and Marks took advantage of a Cougar penalty with Harding scoring off both Oliver and Marks. Brady Melton was next to score, being in perfect position to knock the puck past the Cougar's goalie in a rebound from Baylee Morrison. Ethan Marks added the 7th goal off of Oliver and Baylee Morrison put in the Oiler's final goal to make the score 8-1.
This game proved to be a team effort with forwards Kolby Wilson and Carter Sayers and defensemen Rawson Donald, Jordan Morley, Peyton Wright, Jayden Park and Colin Whiting working hard to set up passes and keep the game in the Cougars end, with the Oilers outshooting the Cougars 22-5. In net for the Oilers were Ryan Oliver and Wyatt Currie who again proved to be outstanding.
