In the 1st quarter final game in the North London tournament the Petrolia Oilers matched up against the Hamilton Spitfires.

Petrolia wanted to play a physical style of play to know off the 2nd seeded team from their game.The 1st period was very even with scoring chances at both ends of the rink.  Petrolia allowed the first goal on a backhand shot over the shoulder of netminder Cameron MacAlpine after the scoring player walked through 3 Oilers.
The Oilers replied with a great passing play off the faceoff following the goal and tying the game less than 10 seconds from the 1st goal.  There was no more scoring in the 1st period.

The first 8 minutes in the 2nd period would be time the Oilers would like to have back as they did not play at all physical during this section of the game and it cost them with 4 goals.  After this breakdown a netminder change was made with Matt Kuipers finishing out the game.

The remainder of the game was extremely physical with the Spitfires taking many penalties as the Oilers continued to use the body and the Spitfires did not want any part of that.  The Oilers could not break the 1-3 penalty kill that Hamilton used.

Although the game had a lobsided score this game could have been much closer if the Oilers played a full 3 periods.  A complete game effort will be required in the playoffs or it will be a short playoff season.

The Oilers face off against Mooretown Storm Jan 12 @ 8pm in Petrolia to start the OMHA playdowns
