  • Notes
In Petrolia's final regular season game they hosted the Thamesford Attack.  The Attack came into this game trailing the Oilers by a single point and had won their previous meeting 5-2 in a game the Oilers would like to forget as they opened that game with 2 goals against in the first minute.

Petrolia was reminded before the game that a tie would ensure them 6th place overall and a win would tie them with 5th place St. Thomas.  St. Thomas has 2 games remaining according to the outdated league website as of Dec 31st.

The Oilers came out strong in the first period and played a quick paced game without a lot of physical play.  The Attack were more physical this night but took many more penalties as well.  The first period saw good scoring chances by both teams but no scoring.

The second period saw the Oilers continue to outwork the Attack and take the play to them getting many scoring chances and getting 2 goals for their efforts.  The Oilers headed into the flood with a 2 goal lead.

In the 3rd period the Oilers wanted to keep up the intensity and not let the Attack into the game.  The Oilers scored making it 3 -0.  The Attack could not get a lot going as far as quality scoring chances in the 3rd but scored a long goal on a slap shot making it 3-1.  The Oilers responded with another goal making the game 4-1.  However the Attack did come to life and score their second on a odd bounce from the side of the net that netminder MacAlpine would love to have back.

From that point on the Oilers picked up their game and the Attack rarely got a shot in the final 5 minutes.  The Attack had no answer for the level of play the Oilers came with on this night.  The Attack were very frustrated with this game and became very chippy near the end of the game.

This won't likely be the last these two teams will see of one another as they will most likely face off in the B side of the league playoffs sometime before the end of March.  The boys look forward to this future series.

Good work again guys.  Bring intensity to the remaining series with Mooretown and into the next as well
