Schedule & Results, Bantam AE, U15, 2011-2012 (Petrolia Minor Hockey)

The Oilers rode into Mt. Brydges Wednesday night to take on the top team in the Shamrock league.  The Oil knew they would be in for a tough night.  The Cougars however were not focused and took the Oilers a bit lightly.
The 1st period saw a very evenly matched game until Petrolia went on the power play where the team came up against a different penalty kill style from anything they have previously seen.  Mt. Brydges plays a passive 2-2 and waits/baits the team to move the puck to one side or the other of the ice and then attacks that side.  Petrolia could not get out of their own zone and ended up turning the puck over costing them a goal.
In the second frame the Oilers picked up their game and started taking the game to the Cougars but could not score on a good number of chances.  After 2 periods the game remained 1-0 Mt. Brydges.

The 3rd period the Oilers played some excellent hockey.   They did a better job breaking out of their own zone and getting quality scoring chances.  The back check was also very good limiting second chances and quality shots.  However with about 5 minutes to go the puck did get turned over and #16 on Mt. Brydges (aka The Mountain) shot a lazer from the blueline to complete the games scoring.  Mt. Brydges were very frustrated in the few scoring chances that they achieved this night and that is entirely due to excellent play by Petrolia in their own end.
Good work guys on another closely played game.  We are showing the top of the league we can play right with them.
