Oilers Crown the Kings 8-2 to Begin 2015
The Atom Oilers began the New Year by crowning the Jr. Kings in Dresden 8-2 on Saturday. The Oilers came out flying in the first period and jumped out to a 6-0 lead and never looked back.
Missing two players, the Oilers rolled two lines and welcomed Kolby Wilson back on the D line for his first stint playing defense and he did a fine job.
Scoring in the first period for the Oilers were Noel Sanderson, Reid King, Andrew Jaques, Owen Stokes with single markers and Jace McGrail potted two. Earning assists on the barrage of first period goals were; Liam Crummy, Zach Wilson, McGrail and Jaques (2).
In the second period McGrail scored another goal to complete the hattrick on an unassisted tap in. Dresden scored in the second and would add another in the third period to close the gap to 7-2. That would be as close as they would come as Jaques finished off the scoring with his second unassisted marker to make the final score 8-2.
Stanley MacDonald, Kolby Wilson, Will Hull and Liam Crummy played well defensively and rushed the puck when open ice was there.
Kento Gudz and Noah Bright shared netminding duties today both giving up one goal each.
Both teams took two penalties each.
The Oilers wrap up their regular season at home next Saturday vs the Wallaceburg Lakers at 3:20pm.
