Oilers Split a Pair of Weekend Matches
The Atom Oilers played .500 hockey this weekend earning a 4-2 Victory over St. Marys but falling to the Rockets 4-1 in Strathroy.
On Friday, The Oilers travelled down the 402 to play the Rockets and came out sluggish and tired and quickly fell behind 3-0. Numerous injuries and heavy legs made for a sloppy and slow first 2 periods. By the third, the Oilers came to life and started forcing the play but it was too little too late as Strathroy tacked on another. Andrew Jaques got the lone Petrolia goal in the third period with assists awarded to Noah Harse and William Hull.
Noah Bright went the distance in goal and was tagged with the loss.
On Saturday, The Oilers came out with a little more pep in their step and carried the play in a tough physical battle. Lots of body contact and sneaky stick-work was rampant throughout the chippy affair. Once again Andrew Jaques lead the way on the scoresheet scoring all 4 Petrolia Goals. Two were unassisted and Brady Melton and Stanley MacDonald earned single assists on the other two goals.
Kento Gudz went the distance in goal for the Oilers and earned the win.
Next up is Tuesday am practice and the Tillsonburg Tornadoes tournament next weekend with games vs Tillsonburg, St. Mary's, and Huntsville.
