Over the past weekend the girls participated in the annual Silver stick Tournament held in Sarnia.

On Friday the girls played local rival Mooretown Storm to start the tournament off at the old Brock Street Barn. We didn't get off to a great start as there was a jersey miscommunication within the coaching staff and we had to play the first period in mismatch practice jerseys until ours arrived. However the girl’s didn’t let that get in the way of the task at hand and powered to a 4-0 win, with Whitney "the wall" Simpson getting the shutout. Goal Scorers were Jenna Bolton, Taylor Parnham, Tabetha Duquette(2).

Next in the round robin was the North Halton Twisters. North Halton had some big girls on their team but they were unable to match the speed and skill of the Oilers. Score was close into the 3rd period until it was broken open with a 4-1 win. Jenna Bolton had a hat trick with some very nice goals but it wouldn’t have been possible without the stellar passing of Jessica Callaghan and Cami Sinclair. Tabetha Duquette chipped one in as well.

On Saturday in the last game of the round robin the girls faced the Grey Highland Storm, it was back and forth action for the first two periods, knotted the game at 2-2 going to the 3rd. Unfortunately the girls were unable to cash on the 4 min powerplay to start the 3rd  and allowed a shorthanded goal and were unable to recover . Grey Highlands would go on to win 5-2 winning the pool. Goal Scorers were Cami Sinclair and Tabetha Duquette.

After finishing 2nd in the pool we would face the Milverton Royals in the Quarter Finals who were the top team out of Pool A. Girls dominated the play but it didn’t show on the scoreboard. It was a nail bitter win as it was 1-0 for most the game and there was also a penalty shot for Milverton, but Whitney Simpson would shut the door and earn another shutout. 1-0 win. Lone Goal Scorer was Courtney Sinclair with a blast from the point.

On Sunday we would play league rival Lambeth Lancers in the Semi – Finals. Lambeth came in with a 30 game win streak. It was a hard fought battle for both teams. Emily Murray would score a beauty in the second period, and we would hang on and head to the finals with a 1-0 win. Strong play the defence would be the reason for the success. Whitney Simpson was also solid in the pipes again and would earn her 3rd shutout of the tournament.

In the finals we would draw the Milverton Royals again as they would get the wildcard to the semis with the best goal differential in the quarters and pulled an upset on Grey Highlands in overtime in the semi-finals. The hard work forchecking of Kiana Charlton, Emily Murray and Amy McCormick would open the scoring in the first. We would gain some insurance from Jenna Bolton and Amy McCormick to head to the 3rd with a 3-0 lead. Milverton would catch a lucky bounce and come within 2 but that would be as close as they would get. Tabetha Duquette would add to the total and make it 4-1 ,and that’s how it would finish.

Congrats to all the girls on the team as it was a full team effort this weekend .Having all lines contributing, the defence playing strong, and solid goaltending was the recipe for success.
