Oilers Battle Cougars to a 3-3 Draw to Stay Alive
The Novice Oilers refused to lose tonight and battled to the bitter end and earned a 3-3 tie against a tough Mt. Brydges Team.

The first two periods, the Oilers were not battling very hard and were not watching where their passes were going and seemed to be going throw the motions.....which could be expected after 7 games in 5days but Kento Gudz held the fort and kept the Cougars at bay until the Oilers found their skating legs.

There was no scoring in the first period and Mt Brydges carried a 2-1 lead into the third period.  Petrolia's goal was scored by Will Hull as he danced in from the red line and sniped a a hard wrister passed the glove hand of the Cougars goalie.

After a barrage of penalties and some hostility from the visitors, the Oilers came to life and started competing a bit harder.  The powerplay clicked when Zach Wilson let go a hard wrister that deflected in off the goalie's shoulder.  Assists were awarded to Hull and Brady Busby-McEachen.  Tie game 2-2.  The game stayed tied until the 1:44 mark of the third when a Petrolia defensive miscue ended up behind Goalie Kento Gudz for a Cougar lead of 3-2.

The Oilers without their timeout (used earlier on two man advantage) regrouped and the tandem of Jace McGrail and Shane Knight forced the puck to the front of the net and Noel Sanderson was johnny on the spot and banged it home, 3-3 with 18.4 seconds left.

Off to 10min overtime.  Both teams would trade chances but neither could score and the game remained a tie.

This marks the first point the Oilers have earned against Mt. Brydges all year and now have alittle confidence heading into Friday Night's game in Petrolia.  Another do or die game for the kids. Series is 5 points to 1 for Mt. Brydges.

Goalie Kento Gudz was the Team Helmet recipient for a solid outing coming back from being sick yesterday.

Rest up this week, take your vitamins and get lots of sleep.  Its been a very busy 5 days.

Let's go Oilers.
