Oilers Fall to Essex Ravens in Motown Cup Final
The Oilers outworked the Essex squad for two periods but could not catch a break. We had lots of shots and close chances but the pucks were not bouncing our way on many occasions. A flukey goal off a shot block put Essex up 1-0 after one period. It remained 1-0 until the third period when Essex seemed to put the pedal down and the Oilers struggled to mount much of a push back.
The Oilers continued to push but 5 games in a couple days started to take it's toll and the energy levels were dropping...the Go Go Gadget turbo boost buttons were out of order and not putting much firepower out but they gave it their all and learned a lot this weekend about heart, efforts, and positional play and coverage in front of our net.
Final Score was 3 to 0 for Essex. The Oiler Tank was empty!
Great efforts boys. A great weekend by all players and parents. Another penalty free game and a great show of sportsmanship applauding the better team on the day. Kudos to Essex, they earned the victory.
Well Done Oilers. Miller 'Mallow' Mailloux was the Hershey's Player of the game.
