Petrolia PeeWee AE are Strathroy AE Olympics Tournament Champions!!
The Petrolia Oilers PeeWee AE team came out of the Strathroy AE Olympics as Tournament Champions.  The will, determination and character shown by this young group of boys would have made Scotty Bowman proud as they faced four other strong teams who are also in their Shamrock League.  Facing these familar teams proved to be a challenge for the PeeWee AE team, who responded well.

The Petrolia Oilers opened the tournament with a closely matched Ilderton team and were able to edge out a victory over the Jets with a 1-0 win.  DJ Langlois was Player of the Game for earning a hard fought shut out.

The Oilers faced long time rival Mooretown on Friday night and were able to hold onto a 2-0 lead for the second win of the tourney.  Player of the Game was Tie Maniuk with Notable Mention going to Bailey Simpson and DJ Langlois (second shut out) for both playing positionally sound throughout the game.

After having the last time slot in the PeeWee division on Friday night, Petrolia had a quick turn around to face Mt Brydges early Saturday morning.  Mt Brydges has only had one loss in regular season play so far this year, handed to them by Petrolia.  The Oilers continued to climb the mountain with that never quit attitude and earned their third victory, winning 2-1 over Mt Brydges.  Player of the Game was Braeden Nickles with Notable Mention going out to Nolan Salaris.

The character of this group was put front and centre in the final round robin game against Strathroy.  The Oilers were down 3 players at the beginning of the game and lost another from a hit to head in the third period.  Each remaining player continued to step up and answer the call when approached by the coaching staff.  Strathroy won the game 2-0 but the true test was the manner in which the Oilers played with a short bench throughout the game.  Player of the Game went to Nolan Salaris and Notable Mention went to the grit and character shown by the entire team.

The Championship game saw the Round Robin first place Petrolia Oilers facing off against second place Ilderton Jets.  A very strong motivational speak was given by the Asst Trainer who asked the team to work hard and think of Keegan Watson, who was not able to play in the tourney because of an injury from last week.

This game was hockey at its finest.  Ilderton came out strong with the first goal of the game.  After a back and forth war between two very hungry teams with big hits and a lot of action the score was 2-2 at the end of regulation.  The first O/T period settled nothing using the regular method of 5 on 5.  The second O/T was played using a 3 on 3 format with Ilderton pressing the action and controlling the first couple minutes of play.  Petrolia was able to move the puck out of their zone with Braeden Nickles taking the puck wide and into the offensive zone.  Braeden made a beautifully unselfish pass to Caleb Guthrie who made no mistake and rifled one past the goalie.  The Oilers were crowned tournament champions with a 3-2 victory in double overtime.   Player of the Game was Caleb Guthrie and Tournament MVP was DJ Langlois with two shut outs and four wins in tournament play.

The Oilers would like to thank Strathroy for putting on an excellent tournament and a special thanks and congratulations to the Ilderton Jets for playing an excellent game and exhibiting tremendous class and sportsmanship.  You have an excellent group of kids.

The Petrolia players motto for the tournament was that they were "In It To Win It!" and proved they have commitment, conviction and integrity.  Congrats Oilers!!
